No, I did not make that statement. But someone did.

Venture Capitalist, Fred Wilson of New York’s Union Square Ventures, a tech investors, believes that by 2020, the biggest tech company in the world right now — Apple — will not be as important. In fact, he doesn’t think it will be in the top three because Apple, he says, is “too rooted to hardware” not the cloud.

At the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in NYC, he projected that the leading three tech companies, instead, will be Google, Facebook “and one that we’ve never heard of.”

Twitter, meanwhile, he deliberates will be “four, five, six, seven… but I’m not sure it will be number-two [or three].” Wilson said he had no idea what will occupy number-three in Apple’s place, “I sure hope that I’m an investor,” he added.

Apple’s stock of the past 12 months chooses to disagree as it has gone up by 31% from iPhone and iPad sales.

Although, Android has kind of overtaken iOS as the leading smartphone platform, and hardware makers, led by Samsung, are continuously building devices on the Android platform that might be beating out Apple in engaging new users.

While Fred Wilson Certainly has a list he appears sure of, I don’t know what to make of his projection. What do you think? Will Apple drop out of the top 3?
