The Kenyan government is embracing mobile technology in another aspect of the economy. The government has launched the mobile Company registration at State Law Offices across the country to ease the stress involved in the process; and reduce Company registration timespan from 14 days to 24 hours.

The new mobile service is open for registration of businesses, marriages and societies. Users dial *271# then choose from the three alternatives. For those that want to register companies, they have options to search for names, track registration, confirm directors then continue with the service.

Charged at KSH 100 to M-PESA Pay Bill number 945050, the process is expected to reduce physical trips to offices which are associated with long queues and corruption. The service will be linked to the users’ Income tax, ID or birth certificate, also helping law enforcement offices curb corruption and collect taxes among others.

The service is at the moment powered by Safaricom and will be introduced to other Kenyan mobile networks soon.
