One week to Battlefield, ST and I were still perambulating around Lagos Island and VI, looking for a hall that would accomodate the number of people who had registered to attend the event. Tickets were sold out on the SMW event page, but my email and phone were still buzzing with messages from people who wanted to come. We had no idea how we’d fit them all into the same room.

And so it came to pass that on the day of Battlefield, our worst fears came true. The hall was practically bursting at the seams, and the event hadn’t even started. We’ve been told that this was a good thing, but it didn’t feel quite like that at the time.

Our eventual saving grace was one that had been contemplated for another purpose altogether. We had planned to stream the Battlefield live over the internet all along, to our global audience. But ST had a brainwave and had the stream piped to the projector in the next room with similar seating, effectively stanching the flow of bodies that were trying to cram themselves into the main event.

Eventually, we managed to convince quite a few people that experiencing the event via livestream, albeit in an adjoining room, was a much better experience than sweating it out in the main event. And from what I hear, the livestream wasn’t half bad. The credit for such a high quality stream goes to Chuka Ofili. Many thanks!

By now, you of course know that PrepClass, a team of four, carried the day and left the battlefield covered in fame, glory and two cheques worth $10,000 each from Stanbic IBTC and iROKING, for a total of $20,ooo. But if you didn’t come to the actual Battlefield event, or missed the livestream in real-time, not to worry. You can watch the whole thing here, on demand.

Enjoy.
