Seems like Jason Njoku will have his hands full this year. First came African Magic Go, and now Wura.tv.

Wura.tv is a Video on Demand site for African and Latino movies, funny videos and documentaries. Yup, Telemundo has found its way online. The site, a product of Nigeria’s Mojocreatives.com, is promising to give Africans and Latinos ease in the streaming of both African and Latino films. The site is angling to be the go-to for cultural films online and on mobile.

With no ads, whether at the beginning, middle or at the end; 3 month free trial and a subscription fee of $3.99 per month, Wura.tv with just a little over 100 titles, is in direct competition with Nigeria’s iROKO TV which has over 5000 titles, a $5 subscription fee and is deeply assimilated into the Nollywood culture, South Africa’s Wabona, and MTN’s DoBox. Wura buys movies straight from their owners then steams them live to its paid subscribers from the two continents.

The Wura app is available for both Android and iOS phones. It will definitely be interesting to see how Wura.tv will take on its competitors in Africa especially in Nigeria.
